4th Annual Pisanki Workshop Is a Rare Opportunity to Learn Cherished Easter Egg Design Skill

A Living Tradition of Faith, Symbolism, and Polish Heritage Sponsored by the Polish Institute of Culture & Research at Orchard Lake

Orchard Lake, Michigan (2/10/26) — The Polish Institute of Culture & Research at Orchard Lake (PICROL) invites the community to take part in one of Poland’s most cherished Easter traditions during its 4th Annual Pisanki Workshop, taking place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at on the campus of the Orchard Lake Schools.

Pisanki — intricately decorated Easter eggs created using the traditional wax-resist method — are far more than ornamental objects. Rooted in centuries-old Slavic and Christian symbolism, pisanki represent renewal, life, faith, and the triumph of light over darkness. Each motif, line, and color carries meaning passed down through generations, making the practice both an art form and a spiritual expression tied closely to the Easter season.

This educational workshop offers participants a rare opportunity to engage directly with this living tradition under the guidance of skilled instructor Iwona Jędrzejczak. Attendees will learn the authentic wax-resist technique using a kistka (wax stylus), dye, and eggs, and will create their own finished pisanka to take home.

The workshop will be held in the Dining Hall at the Orchard Lake Schools founded in 1885, rich in its 141-year tradition and long regarded as a cornerstone of faith-based education and cultural life. Pisanki sessions will be offered at the following times throughout the day:

Workshop fees are $40 for adults and $15 for children (up to 18 years old). Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Adult tickets may be purchased for the morning session only when attending with a child.

In addition to the workshop, pisanki kits and traditional Easter babkas will be available for purchase. In-person sales are cash or check only.

The Polish Institute of Culture & Research at Orchard Lake is dedicated to preserving, studying, and sharing Polish and Polish-American heritage through cultural programming, education, archives, exhibitions, and community engagement. Through programs such as the Pisanki Workshop, the Institute ensures that traditions are not only remembered, but actively practiced and passed on to future generations.
