Polish Institute of Culture & Research Presents “Out of the Shadows: Introducing the Music of the Polish Baroque”

ORCHARD LAKE, MI (12-3-24) — The Polish Institute of Culture & Research invites the public to an illuminating lecture by Professor Paul Radzilowski, Ph.D., titled Out of the Shadows: Introducing the Music of the Polish Baroque. This captivating event will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 6:00 PM, in the Galeria at the Polish Institute, located at 3535 Commerce Rd., Orchard Lake, MI 48324. Admission is free and open to all.

Professor Radzilowski, a distinguished cultural and church historian, has taught at Madonna University, St. Mary’s College, and the University of Michigan Dearborn. His recent publications delve into the hagiographical works of Jan Długosz and Blessed Ladislaus of Gielniów, with translations of their hymns and poems. Known for exploring the intersection of music, religion, and culture in the pre-modern era, Professor Radzilowski also serves as cantor for his secular Carmelite group.

The event will highlight the unique and often-overlooked contributions of Polish Baroque music to global culture. “Professor Radzilowski’s expertise bridges the gap between the sacred and the artistic,” said Ania Bieciuk, Associate Director for Polonia Affairs at the Institute. “Through this lecture, we hope to shine a light on the incredible richness of Polish Baroque music, which offers not only artistic beauty but also deep cultural and spiritual significance.”

Additionally, Professor Radzilowski recently discussed these themes during an interview with Vanessa Denha-Garmo on the Epiphany program of Ave Maria Radio, offering listeners a preview of the insights he will share during his lecture.
